There are a variety of activities for children to use in the gallery including a Family Trail about the Garman family and Frisky Doggy Bags, backpacks full of games, puzzles and activities to help young children to explore the Garman Ryan Collection. The six themed bags available include still life, portraits and materials. Computer interactives and puzzles also encourage visitors to engage with the themes of the Garman Ryan Galleries.
Visitors with visual impairments are welcome to touch the sculptures in the Garman Ryan Collection.
Education Packs are available to purchase in the gallery shop or buy calling. Packs for Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and 2 provide background information on the collections, artists, artworks and also contain A3 colour photocopies of selected paintings and sculptures.
Packs for Key Stage 3 and 4 contain A3 colour photocopies of selected works in the Garman Ryan Collection with background information offering suggestions for class-based pre-visit preparation, things to look out for and do during your visit and activities related to your visit on return to school.
The Box is a free handling resource based on the Garman Ryan Collection for use during a visit to the gallery with Key Stage 1 - 4 students. The Box contains replica artworks and suggested activities. Please contact the Education Department for more information.
Entitlement Education Loan Resource boxes are available to Walsall schools for use in the classroom and contain images, replica objects and schemes of work based on the collections in Walsall museums and gallery collections for Key Stage 3 and 4.
