The New Art Gallery Walsall aims to provide a fully accessible, welcoming and friendly environment, where all people can appreciate its collections, exhibitions and facilities and participate in projects, workshops and events. The gallery aims to help visitors get the most from our facilities, and to support visitors with access needs and their carers when planning a visit.

Barrier Free
The gallery entrance is fully accessible from Gallery Square, with automatic doors. The gallery has six fully accessible floors which are all level and barrier free.
Lifts
There are lifts to all floors of the gallery. There are two lifts each with a capacity of 16 people. Each lift can comfortably accommodate a wheelchair. The lifts have announcements on each floor telling you where you are and what you will find.
Toilets and Baby Change
There are five accessible toilets throughout the gallery. They are located on the ground floor and Floors 1 and 4 and in the DiSCO and Activity Rooms. Please ask a Gallery Assistant to direct you. A baby change room is located on the ground floor of the gallery.
Guide Dogs
Guide dogs are welcome in all areas of the gallery. Water is available on request.
Visitors who require additional support for learning
The gallery offers a friendly and safe environment for learning. Please contact us in advance to arrange a visit of a group of people who require additional support for learning.
Wheelchairs
Wheelchairs and electric scooters are welcome in the gallery. The gallery has two wheelchairs for visitors to use. Please ask at reception, or call 01922 654400 or email to pre-book them.
Seating
There are seats on all floors of the gallery and in the exhibition spaces. Lightweight, folding portable seats which can be carried throughout the building are also available on request.
Typescripts
Typescripts are available for the introductory video in the Garman Ryan galleries and the audio recordings of artists in DiSCO - The Family Gallery. Please ask at reception for further information.
Induction Loop
An induction loop is fitted at reception, please ask if you would like to make use of it.
BSL Tours
BSL interpreted tours can be made available in advance, please contact us for more details.
Large Print
All artwork captions in the gallery is 16-point size. There is also a large print version of the What's On Guide available at reception. This can be sent to you prior your visit on request, please contact us.
Non-Reflective Glass
Works in the Garman Ryan Collection are framed with non-reflective glass and are hung low so that visitors can get a close up view.
Bright Days
On the first Wednesday of each month from 1.30pm - 5pm the lighting level in the Garman Ryan Collection is increased. The normal lower lighting level protects works on paper from fading.
Hands-on
Throughout the Garman Ryan Collection there are hands-on representations of certain works. These include Braque's work Birds in Flight, and Durer's wood cut prints. These can be handled and explored by all visitors, to explore the form and shape of works.
Introduction:
Temporary Exhibitions
The exhibitions sometimes include works that are interactive, or have their own audio guides. Free talks about the exhibitions, given by artists and curators are held regularly.
Educational Projects
Group projects can be arranged focusing on certain areas of the collection or exhibitions. An example of one such project was Vis Art Club, a special art project with the Visual Impairment Unit where a group of blind and partially sighted children visited the gallery once a week during term time to work with artists, develop skills and find out more about the artworks. - DiSCO - The Family Gallery
- A member of staff is always at hand to help you get the most from DiSCO, and wheelchair accessible toilets and pushchair storage are near to hand.
Gallery Café - Costa is situated on the ground floor. It is wheelchair accessible and staff can move the furniture if required. Please ask a member of staff if you require assistance.
- The Garman Ryan Collection
The collection is spread over two floors with lift access. The pictures and information labels are hung low, so that most artworks are accessible to wheelchair users and children. - Exhibition Galleries
On Floors 3 and 4 we present a changing programme of historic and contemporary exhibitions. The artwork and information labels are hung low, so that most of them are accessible to wheelchair users and children. - Bookable Tours
The gallery offers a range of guided touch tours that can be tailored to meet individual or group requirements. We aim to provide tours that best cover your interests; we therefore ask that you book in advance.
