Artist of the Month - Robert Delaunay1 July - 31 July 2009

Delaunay was a prolific and influential artist in the early 1900s, yet has been frequently over looked by art historians. Like the Impressionists before him, he was fascinated with the effects of colour and light. Although predominantly interested in abstraction, Delaunay embarked on a period of portrait painting mid-career. Portrait of Stravinsky (1918) can be found in the Garman Ryan collection, and is currently on display in Don't Judge a Book by it's Cover.
This month's display is written by Gallery Assistant Faye Dudley.
