We offer a range of Free Talks for Nursery to KS2 which are available all year round.
- Approximately 20 to 30 minutes
- Free to all formal education groups
- Must be booked in advance
- Recommended group size is up to 20 so why not split your class into two groups and swap activities?
Introduction to the permanent collection: Find out about the people behind the family portraits in the Garman Ryan Collection.
Portraits: Discover, discuss and question when, how and why the portraits in the collection were made.
Sculpture: Explore the great variety of materials, processes and styles involved in creating a traditional sculpture.
Landscapes: Learn about basic perspective, uses of colour and styles through exploring works by famous artists.
Introduction to the current contemporary art exhibition: Gain a deeper insight into the temporary exhibition and discuss the ideas behind the art works.
We offer a range of Paid Workshops for Nursery and Reception which are available all year round.

- £40 per workshop for schools within Walsall
- £70 per workshop for schools outside Walsall
- Recommended group size is 20 max

- The workshops are based on QCA schemes of work, but are extremely cross curricular in approach

Nursery: Alien Adventures
Do you feel like an alien in an art gallery? Come along and meet our arty alien, find out how he feels, what he eats, about the patterns on his skin. You can make some alien antennae for yourself, hear a story and make a badge.
Primary KS1 to KS2: What is Sculpture?
Pupils look, draw, explore and develop understanding about sculpture and materials then create individual sculptures with mod roc. This workshop links well with work on portraits.
Learning to Print
Pupils explore, discuss, draw and then learn printmaking techniques inspired by the collection. This workshop links well with work on exploring architecture, landscapes, animals or still life. The subject content is your choice.
We offer a range of Paid Workshops linked to the exhibition programme for Reception to KS2, these are time limited so booking in advance is essential.
Edible Sculpture
See the Pot Luck exhibition of artists that use food to make their art. Measure out materials and make your own coloured dough and use it to model your own sculpture.
